My Machine Is Grinding

My machine has started making a brief (about one second) grinding noise just as the spindle begins moving left after measuring the bit. It also occasionally wants to travel past the right rail, hitting it and grinding in the process. And, It’s also started skipping the prompt in Carbide Motion to enable the spindle before cutting starts. Now it just starts on its own. Seems like two separate issues to me, but the both happened at the same time.

I’ve tried reinitializing, updating etc. I replaced the proximity switch on the rail in question. I can’t see any obstruction that would make the grinding noise, and it doesn’t happen when I manually move the spindle left. I have also tried repositioning the bit setter.

Any ideas?

Which machine do you have?

Is it mechanically sound with all mechanical aspects secure and properly adjusted with all wiring in good condition and all connectors secure?

Are any linear rails/blocks lubricated?

It’s a Shapeoko 5 Pro. Everything is secure and level. All the rails are lubed and wiring harnesses are secure as far as I can tell.

Send a video to the folks at support@carbide3d.com and we’ll get this sorted out as quickly as we can.
