Does anyone have any tips on how I can make a gear design?

Any tutorials? Tips? Ideas on how to start?

I have not decided yet on how big I need it yet but thinking about a 4" diameter with 6 or 8 1" cogs?

Any help is appreciated?

There are a bunch of gear generators on the web that will let you design and download a dxf or svg file. Do a quick search for Gear Generator.

Other gear generators:

This one provides nice animations and you can create entire gear trains, but it is pay-for-download. No reason you couldn’t use it for design and then get the designs from one of the other sites.
