New Post-Processor for Vectric software

Great post. Was looking for a solution of keeping track of what tool was next. just a popup with #'s is horrible. Also really like the post program of going home instead of coming forward. I’m sure there’s an option in Gsender for all this, but I haven’t gotten that far, so CM and this solution work. Great job, as I haven’t the time to figure out editing the post processor script. Thank you!

Well, back again with another update. Most significant is an issue
with how pause command is supported on 5Pro machines leaving the
spindle spinning and my post-processor prompt to install dust boot.

Also I had been using various Origin Datums and kept forgetting which
when so added a Origin Datum move check prior to allowing the first
Z plunge.

And received several complaint comments about using older terminology
like ATC and .nc in the file naming convention which was confusing people.

I have rushed the testing on this version because of the safety issue with
the spinning spindle and since I don’t have a 5Pro not sure how well the
timing spacing I did will work. So please let me know any issues so I
can address.

Thanks again for your support.

Best regards,

Allen

Hi @Allen44 I really appreciate you doing this. I devised my own fork of an older PP for SO5 and 65mm Spindle before I found your work. When I did I incorporated your ending metadata idea its very useful.

I have a dense question. How did the SPINDLE-ON section come about? Why are the Dwell commands needed? Were people having issues with the origin being wrong or spindle not coming up to speed?

I don’t have the SPINDLE_ON or dwell commands in my PP and I have no issues. The behavior I see is after a tool change the first rapid in the toolpath doesn’t begin until about 1 second after the VFD display hits the specified speed. that seems to be coded into the controller I’d guess

Hi Mookie,

The Spindle_On and Dwell sections were added by Vectric in their default Shapeoko post-processor before my time and I just continued on with them.

There were several comments in different forums/sites about having the Spindle speed stabilize which is why I added the feature in mine. I was myself getting forgetful about where I had set the origin and ruined one project blank which is why I added the Origin check pause.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Allen

okay thank you for explaining. I haven’t looked at the Vectric provided PP in a while. I use the same origin for everything and move my drawing in reference to it with reference lines on table for stock alignment… the reason for check didn’t occur to me.

Hello again everyone. @CullenS pointed out an issue with my post-processor when using the 5Pro and dust boot pause prompt for the Spindle. Since I have the Shapeoko Pro I was not seeing the issue. Cullen was gracious enough to test the update with his 5Pro for me. The update is attached as version 7m.

If you use the Vectric family I highly recommend this post processor regardless of which Shapeoko model you are using.

Cullen, you must have had something in mind when you recommended this PP for any Shapeoko.

I haven’t had a chance to look at the source code, though I’m wondering about that.

ok, to be fair, I know nothing about the Nomad or HDM.
Certainly for the 5Pro and the Pro it will be good. I don’t know think there would be anything in it that would prevent use for the earlier models.

In addition to the new changes to support the pause for the 5Pro behavior I primarily like the prompts for the tools which are more informative than the OOTB one for the Vectric products. @Allen44 can elaborate on any other details that make it special.

OK, spent some time today updating all the various versions of my Post-Processor for the different Vectric versions, trim router, Spindle, Laser, etc. While doing so I noticed in the version m I posted yesterday I had accidentally left the Toolname out of the new tool status line so version n adds it back in. So all the various versions are updated and attached here in one bundle.

Regarding the question above about use with HDM’s and Nomad’s, I have no experience using them and no feedback from anyone using them.

Allen

I have been using these post processors since v7d and am so thankful @Allen44 for the continued updates and tweaks. I am on a 5Pro and the reordering of the dust boot / spindle on command sequence in the latest releases is a great improvement.
