New to Me Shapeoko 3xxl!

Hello All! I recently acquired a Shapeoko 3xxl, and finally got it cleaned and booted up today. I wanted to post the spindle and wiring and ask if it looked alright to you all, and if anyone had any recommendations or tips for tidying up the wiring and initial maintenance on the machine. It has sat for probably 2 years without running, so anything you all think should be replaced I’d love to hear. Thanks, looking forward to sharing my enclosure and upcoming projects!

Looks great!

Belt-drive Z-axis, mechanical homing switches, and most importantly Grbl 1.1, so you should be good to go with the current software.

See:

for more on it.

Might want to snag a Maintenance Kit:

which will allow you to pretty much rebuild to like new (but the machine looks new/unused).

The usual solution for the drag chains was to either drill and tap holes for the drag chain ends or to do so for aluminum angle to increase the surface area for the drag chain to rest on.

A notable upgrade would be an HDZ Z-axis.

Note that if you want to get a Carbide Compact Router or 65mm spindle you’ll either need an adapter bushing:

or an HDZ and HD mount.

Do you think the current PCB is good, or should I get the new one when Carbide has it in stock?

Does the machine connect and are you able to jog it around? I would try running the machine as far as it will go before getting a new PCB unless its already known to be bad?

It should be fine, except it doesn’t have a BitRunner connector — if you want that accessory you will need a new controller.
