When i load a program/file it starts cut everything is fine. Except the z axis. It drops down makes a cut then comes right back up, drops down makes a cut then come right back up. The entire job…

In your file setup what do you have your retract height set to? Lots of discussion on here about optimizing retract height. This is how much your Z axis rises in between cuts.

It would help a bunch if you shared the .c2d file.
The retract and move and plunge again is pretty typical for V-carve toolpaths — this is probably fine.
Post your file and photos of the cut or a video?
Mine is set .5 so that explains the upward movement each time.
But why is it that it makes a bunch of small cuts and not one continuous?
I had made a video of what its doing but it wont let me download it here. Ill try and take pics of my setting and put them up.

The other thing ill mention is that it only cut with vee bit. Never used the straight bit. Working on uploading the file

I really appreciate any help you guys can give. Ive built a cutting board for a wedding gift and need to do this inlay. Its my first. And i dont want to screw it up. So ive been practicing on a bunch of scrap wood.
Like @WillAdams said the lots of movements yp and down is pretty typical for V carves. This is just due to the geomety of the v-bit and tool engagement to my understanding.
