Just wanted to introduce myself as a new member of the Carbide 3D Community!
I’m just getting started with CNC and recently got interested in Carbide 3D’s tools and software. I’m here to learn, get tips from more experienced users, and hopefully share my progress along the way. I’ve already seen how helpful this community can be, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.
If you have any beginner advice, favorite tutorials, or project inspiration to share, I’d really appreciate it!
Looking forward to learning and making some cool stuff.
Hello all, I’m new to this hobby and need basic instruction. I have watched all the tutorials, but still I am not totally comfortable. The 30 minute sessions offered by Shapeoko and their staff are great, but you don’t know what you don’t know. They answer any questions but I don’t really know what questions to ask. I want to be able to use the machine and software to the fullest extent. I would like to get with someone familiar with Carbide Create and have them teach me the basics via Zoom or other similar platform. I would like at least once a week lessons. Please let me know if this is available. Thank you in advance
and actually looked into on-going bi-weekly sessions, but mine was such a disaster that this was given up on.
There is also Cutrocket:
as well as the forum itself which has a number of downloadable projects/files.
That said, the usual approach is folks ask questions here or on Support, and the answers are either provided directly, or if viewed to be generally interesting are posted at:
(note that before the recent update to our Help Ticket System, one reason for posting such to the forum was that the pixel images in e-mails sent from support were downsampled into a blurry mess, so a fair number of repetitive/boring tutorials were done, mea culpa)
In addition to the above, I have just updated:
and
Let me know if I missed any typos, or if anything is confusing, or was missed, or needs updating.
Welcome! You’ve joined a fantastic community. Having recently started at it myself (less than a month ago) I can say the people here have been as much a part of my success as almost anything else as they all are ready to help in any way.
The key to this cnc thing is to practice… I know you may have reservations but watch the tutorials and look at other material provided. Learn how to initialize the machine and the jog functions including rapids. Start with pine, mdf or plywood to practice on. Start with simple shapes to outline a project (square/circle). Use single line text or larger block type font.
We can answer all your questions but until you jump in and hit the start button your learning will be limited.
Accept that some projects will be complete failures. Don’t blink, don’t get discouraged, learn from it and become better. Also, invest in a nice fire pit for for all the failed wood carvings.
