I have had my 2x4 5Pro for about a month. Having never done any CNC before, at 71 I have learned a lot in the last few weeks. Below is progression in pictures from the obligatory bit and collet holder in MDF to a lotus flower inlay (wife’s request) with maple and purple heart completed today. This has been a fun journey to build on each new learning experience to produce something new and interesting.
Your well on your way, fantastic work!
Very nice work. What do you use for finish?
As a CNCer I know how much work went in to your projects. They are quite nice. So I dont want to discourage you and this is early days but as a woodworker for 50+ years I have a small criticism. On your lotus tray you can see the tracks of your tool when machining the piece. So make sure you do a thorough sanding before moving on to avoid that kind of mistake. So very good effort but just a little bit more needed. Often applying mineral spirits to the sanded surface helps highlight rough spots. The mineral spirits dry fast and wont really slow you down.
@Logan01 usually tung oil or polyurethane.
@gdon_2003 thanks, I did see them also, I just didn’t take the time this time to sand, but I appreciate the recommendations. Wife was happy with it…LOL.
I have one of these guys for sanding in smaller spaces and pockets.
I have a similar corded version but have not used it in several years. I will need to break it out and get some new sandpaper for it.
