I am noticing noise coming from the free end of the Y2 ball screw.
I get less noise from the X and Y2 ball screw.
The noise changes based on speed, quieter when going faster.
My fix has been putting way oil on the end. Any other suggestions ?

If you move the gantry to the back, can you move the front end of the ball screw? Both of my bearing retainer nuts came loose. Small dot of blue loctite, and hand tighten the nut.
Different brands of thread locker are different colors. @Tod1d means to use removeable thread locker. Permanent thread locker requires fire to loosen and Shapeoko and fire do not mix well.
I have had the nut loose up before and had to retighten. I know that noise.
This issue is on the other end.
The X and Y1 rods can be moved a little bit by grabbing the rod moving. They do not make much noise.
The Y2 rod can not be moved. It seems to be buried in the retainer a little deeper and I think that is the issue. Like it is bottoming out.
You are going to get some noise out of them. There is no bearing. The ball screw will whip alittle and they just run the support.
I’ve been meaning to make an aluminum one with a bearing just haven’t had the time to take one off to measure everything.
That’s not a great idea. There has to be some place where any whip, bending by gravity, warp, etc of the rod can be accounted for. Constraining the end means that there might be binding. They allow the end to move for a reason.
I agree the mount is a retainer only. I would expect the runout of the screw rods needs a little space to operate. The linear bearings take up the non-axial loads.
I think there should be some end play and it seems the Y2 rod doesn’t have enough.
You can feel the vibration in the mounting block.
Can you move that end of the screw rod on your machines ? It’s not a lot, but you know it’s free.
