Nomad 4 Job Setup Offset

New to a Nomad (4). I want to engrave a license plate with a name, but the plate is larger than the nomad table. The plate is 5.8 high by 11.5 wide and the table is 10 high by 8 wide. I could turn the plate 90 degrees and it will be above the Nomad plate on the front outside surface of the nomad. I think I will have to also put an offset in the Vectric Job Setup. I need to pick off the experienced users here.

Congrats on the machine, it’s super capable.
I can’t give you any advice on the vectric side of things but I’d recommend doing an “air cut” before you actually commit to cutting your workpiece.

An air cut will give you some visual confirmation that the tool is roughly where you want it to be.

Generally to air cut you would just set the z-origin a good bit higher than your workpiece.

Are you engraving all the way to the edge of the plate? If you center it on the table leaving 3/4" hanging off the front & back, you can use a center XY zero.
Or you can use an offset zero. Put a mark at Y 2" on the plate. Set your zero at the mark, and then type in the Y field, “2.000”. Your zero will be off the table, but your path shouldn’t go there.

Thanks Tod. I’ll give that AND the haircut to start.

The N4 table is actually 10" in X and 8" in Y, and the bitsetter is very near the right-hand edge of the table. Given that, I’d place the frame with the long axis in Y with the rear edge short of flush with the back edge of the table, and do the half-jobs with a 180° rotation (about the centerpoint of the frame) between them, rather than a tiling. The N4 will happily run with the front door open for probably just this reason–i.e. a workpiece hanging off the front edge of the table…
