Painting MDF with Epoxy inlays

I have a project that has an epoxy inlay in mdf. I want to paint the mdf and not the epoxy inlay. Does anyone have any ideas maybe a paint that doesn’t stick to epoxy? The inlay is too complex to mask. This is one of my first projects so go easy on me if I’m out of the logical order of operation.
Thanks,
Steve

I prime/paint first. Then I pour the epoxy.

I like to use a squeeze bottle or large syringe with a flat tip needle for fine details when needed.

I haven’t used a squeeze bottle for epoxy… but it sounds like a good idea. I would try that if there was enough of an area to justify it. A syringe is hard to fill and use (for me) because of the viscosity. And it drips between spots and ares, if you don’t pull back on the plunger to stop the pressure.

To be fair, I have used the purpose made syringes with mixed/decent results but, they are much more expensive than a wax paper cup. And, that additional cost can add up very quickly. Cant really reuse a syringe because the epoxy starts to harden.

Epoxy sets the opposite of glue. If left in a container after mixing it will harden much faster than if you pour it out flat.

A steady hand, and a toothpick for the corners works great… for me.
