Pasting always goes to the default layer

It’s possible I’m missing something, but I can’t seem to copy and paste between layers. I have a large SVG that I want to split up to make toolpathing easier.

What I’m doing right now is:

  • Import an SVG
  • Select and cut parts of the design
  • Create a new layer
  • Make sure the layer is activated (tried both double clicking and using the menu to activate)
  • Paste

Every time the paste goes back to the default layer.

As a workaround, in the Layer menu there is “Move Selection to Layer”.

It does seem to be directly related to the ‘Default’ layer. If I delete that one, the paste between layers seems to work properly.
