Pausing / Stopping / Resuming a job help/advice

I needed to pause a job while I left the room. When I clicked pause, the VFD remained on, so I clicked stop button in CM thinking that would stop the VFD. I did not realize I would not be able to resume or recover the job.

What are the proper steps I should follow if I needed to walk away or leave the room without aborting the job? Afterwards I thought maybe I should have pressed pause in CM and then pressed the red-light button on the VFD box? Would that have allowed me resume?

CM 640

Running Time: 1.2 hours

I turn off the VFD just for safety.
So Pause then VFD button.

What if you need to examine the workpeice? Is there a way to jog and resume at the same spot?

I have not tried to move the spindle and expect to return to proper coordinates.
If there is a way I am very interested.

Was more of a suggestion/question for the more experienced. I also would like to be able to do this. Should be as easy as the program marking the last known position and then during a pause allowing us to jog then having it move back at full z height then once in xy position lower to the correct z. Even just using their current CAM allowing us to pause and create a copy of the remainder of the program starting at the position it was and using that with the existing zero we probed would be awesome.
