Playground Sign out of 1" black PVC

Hi All…
I have a Shapokeo 5 pro 2x4 and received a job for a 40" x 40" Playscape Sign
with dedication memorial wording…

The material is a 1" black PVC board
I used masking tape before using a “V” carve bit for the wording
so I could paint it white per the customer’s request.

I had never cut anything bigger than my machine before, but wasn’t going to turn down a job
I did some research on Carbide 3D and used "TILING’ function and it worked great !!

What do you think?

Rick, how did you clamp it for the tiling job?

I just used the Green plastic clamps that came with my Shapeoko 5 pro
I slammed the PVC to the left side of the bed and used the “GREEN” shapeoko clamps and clamped it on the right side as well
I watched this video a couple of times

Do you know how it will be mounted on location?

Yes !
I will be using two Street Sign polls (The ones with all the holes )
Each poll will run on the back side of each child figure to the top for security
I will be drilling through the material and using “Cap” bolts and lock nuts
The polls will be cemented into 48 inch deep holes
I will post a photo after installation

Where did you find black PVC?

It comes in many colors and thicknesses
Google search “Sintra” PVC in any color

I just recently heard PVC can hold paint nicely. Is that true? In my impression plastic in general does not hold paint well. Am I wrong? Does it hold because of the rough cut surface? Or can even the smooth surface hold the paint by any kind of chemical bond forever (like welding acrylic?)?
And what masking tape did you use?
Great sign btw!

I have had good success with painting it.
@baricl has a lot more experience with it.

I use PVC and paint it all the time. Standard Rust Oleum spray for cut areas where needed and 2 inch foam roller for top coat. Covers nicely and makes a nice finish. Sometimes also apply clear coat for extra protection if it is an outdoor sign. I use standard 3/4 or 1/2 PVC board from Home Depot, Lowes, or Menards. Comes in various size boards in 3/4 or 2 x 4 sheets in 1/2 size. Royal Building Products in a common brand.

I painted PVC with Black Krylon Fusion and carved outdoor signs. It’s 2-1/2 years old now and still looking good. I did the entire HOA street markers as well.

I buy white PVC and spray 3 coats of flat paint (Rustoleum 2 in 1) and then carve designs to just 0.6mm to etch through the paint. It works great and is easier, cheaper, and faster than masking. I top coat with gloss or satin clear when done.
