Pocket and Tab issues

I tried to add a pocket to this and it would not work so I worked around it as you can see. Trying to understand why a pocket cut would not create. Wanted to add to get deeper with my 201 bit.

Also, tried to add tabs via the Edit tabs button and I think that I messed something up (or not understanding something on the tabs).

With regards to the tabs, you seem to have them fine but they won’t get cut since you have them on the outside vector but none of your outside / In cuts go to the bottom of the material. If you did cut this as a pocket the tabs would not work either. The one cut you do have going to the bottom of the stock is on the inside vector and that one does not have tabs. Even if you did have the tabs included, you have told the cut to ignore them.

If you want tabs on the inner vector you need to select that vector and go back to the design tab and select the edit tabs icon. This will let you add them to the only cut going to the bottom but you would still need to uncheck the box to ignore tabs.

Hopefully this helps.

I think one issue is you are trying to use a 1/4-inch bit for a narrower less than 1/4-inch pocket.

Is this closer to what you are trying to achieve?

I should have added, if the goal is to cut the part out and that is why the tabs and the pocket is to try to make it easier on the bit then what you would so is something like this. First add the tabs to the inner vector as I mentioned above. Then select both vectors and click pocket.

Have it go to about 1.05 inches

Select only the inner vector and then add a contour.

Next either enter the original max depth as the start depth and then t as the new max depth. Choose outside right and make sure you don’t ignore tabs.

Delete your other tool paths.

Hello!
Thanks for the help. I thought that the ignore tabs was meaning do not cut the tabs. To be honest, I thought for a while the tabs were automatic until I found the tabs feature in the design table and then my past false knowledge led me down a bad path. So mistake there on my end. I went back out last night and got the tabs to work.
I will have to try the pocket again because I did the exact thing you did above (before I changed to the program I sent here). The only thing is that I did not have was the tabs in step 1. I clicked both vectors, clicked pocket and it wanted to cut out everything (not just the pocket outline). I could not get it to stop trying to cut the whole thing out (0.080" deep).

It does. What else could it mean?

Yup I get that now. Just was thinking differently at the time when I was thinking they were automatic (hind sight is that my thinking was backward and wrong). It is clear now how it works, just wrong thought process initially.
