We have a Shapeoko XXL Pro and we’ve been having issues with all our pocket toolpaths. The max depth we’ve put into our files doesn’t translate to our cuts. Each time the depth cut is different and we can’t locate our problem.
What material are you cutting?
At what feeds and speeds?
Post your file and a photo of how a cut turned out?
We are cutting plywood. We’re a robotics FRC team using this machine and have no mentors that know how to use our CNC router specifically so we don’t have much prior experience experimenting with speeds, feeds, and rates. We’ve been able to cut before relying on the Carbide softwares presets but it’s been out of wack recently. We’ve been in contact with people that work on CNC but not onsite, they have thought we have a mechanical issue with our actual router but we don’t know who to contact that could actually diagnose a problem.
The photo to the right is what we’ve tried to cut but using a caliper to check our cut the max depths have been completely off. We tried to cut pockets with a depth of 0.108 in but the machine cut a depth of 0.100 in on the first pass then plunged to a depth of 0.074 as you can see in the smaller hole. This was a test because what we actually tried to cut had some similar issues of not procuring the correct max depth. However the depths from the first time we did a pocket toolpath to our test were not consistent so we can’t seem to locate a problem.
Don’t post pictures of your C2D file. Post the actual C2D file.
The slight and inconsistent reduction in depth makes me think some component is slipping as the machine presses downward.
I would check the collet in your spindle to make sure your endmill isn’t slipping. Clean it up with acetone or isopropyl alcohol.
Check the spindle mount to be sure the spindle/router isn’t slipping, as well.
Next would be your z-axis. I would need to know what version of machine you have before offering any troubleshooting advice there
