Hey y’all, I’m still relatively new to cnc and have started dabbling with some different woods. I’m currently about to cut a large pocket in some poplar. I was going to try and use say a 1/2” windmill with 2 flutes to try and speed things up but these calculators are confusing me. I tried a couple online and it’s still showing up ridiculous cut times. 1080 minutes etc. the area to be cut out is approximately 21”w x 9”h and about 3/4” deep. And help would be greatly appreciated. I have the carbide 3D router.
What speeds/feeds? I went 0.260 stepover, 0.125 DOC, 10000 RPM, 90 IPM and got about 55 minutes. You can quite likely bump the feedrate up during the cut to reduce the time.
Post the file so we can take a look.

here is the file.
i got it down to about 130 minutes with 1/4" endmill. still seems a bit much.
the tray pocket will be just under 3/4" and the turkey on there will just barely be engraved on top. I typically use a taper bit at 1/16" for that but if yall have a better idea for that im all ears too.
I looked over the file.
I think you went a bit too aggressive with your DOC for a SO3. .18" in Hardwood will likely cause a loss of steps. For an SO3 on hardwood would go .08" MAX DOC.
I suggest you use 2 pieces of wood that are .75" each. You can cut out the “Frame” and glue it up to the bottom piece.
If you must do a pocket cut with this project then I suggest using a Bowl bit.
