Power Pendant Extension

Has anyone used a longer 6pin PCI extension cable to give more length to the power pendant? I would like to move it someone closer to my operating position.

Welcome to the forum.

Which power pendant are you referring to?

I’m sure support could tell you if your cable could be extended and the gage wire to use if needed?

The power pendant for the Shapeoko 5 Pro 2x4. I did contact many moons ago when I inquired about some dimensions when I was designing the enclosure. They said, it is unsupported at this time. It looks like the same connector that PCs use. If that is true, then getting ~6 feet of extensions would allow me to better place the pendant. The ones I was looking at were 16awg, but I cannot image that there is much power flowing through the pendant.

From the OEM view point the way they built the machine is supported. That said unsupported does not mean that it wont work. It is just an electrical signal so a 6’ extension should work. The deal is just make it so you can revert back if there is ever a support issue. That way you can get help from C3D support even after warranty has expired.

Exactly. I completely understand why the manufacture doesn’t want me messing with the wiring. I won’t cut the OEM cable, but will take a crack at the extensions. Theoretically there is no problem, but curious if anyone else has tried it.

Assuming equivalent pin connection it should work without issue.

Yes it should work fine. Get a set of 6 pin connectors and make your own extension cord. Worst case it doesn’t and remove it.

Same question came up this week–thanks for answering, Tim and Guy. I’ll try the extension method and see if it works.
