Prevent tool from plunging into work when clicking stop

When running a job via Carbide Motion, occasionally I have to pause and then stop the job. For example, if it’s not cutting as expected.

However, whenever I hit stop the spindle spins down and then the Z axis drops the tool into the work.

Is there any way to prevent this behavior? (It’s a Shapeoko HDM)

Actually, never mind. If you let the machine pause (after hitting pause) for a few seconds, the spindle retracts. Then, when you hit stop it only plunges a little. I was hitting stop too soon.
