Program zero is too far back

I’m trying to surface the waste board on a shapeoko 5 pro 4x4 and I’m getting this warning when I try to start the job. I set the X Y zero using the Rapid Position and then set the Z zero with some paper. The job in Carbide Create is set up as 4 x 4 with the toolpath zero set to center. So, if the machine is setting its own X Y zero, how is it too far back?

Most C3D machines can cut off the front of the machine somewhat. That is included in the 4x4 cutting area. Since I dont have an SO5 I am not positive about that but that is likely what is wrong. To prove it jog to the front and see if it moves off the front edge. Then move all the way to the back and see how much that covers. I think the SO5 is capable of reaching the whole 4x4 area but if part of that 4x4 area is off the front that is likely why you are getting the bounds error.

Thanks for the reply. I checked and the cutter does hang off the back when jogging all the way to the back. The front seems very close and does not hang over like that. Can I run the job as-is without causing some issue? I don’t see how the over hang would cause any damage.

This is a warning as noted at:

https://carbide3d.com/blog/carbide-motion-bounds-checking/

Usually it is caused by a mismatch between job setup:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/create/job-setup/

and how origin is set relative to the stock:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/running-shapeoko/movements-zeroing/

I find that opening the .c2d file up and drawing a box which matches the specified dimensions (draw up the cut in profile if need be) or moving the machine to the origin and then using a tape measure to measure out the dimension(s) in question will make clear where things aren’t lining up.

The SW Rapid Position is not all the way forward or left. Move forward & left until you hit the physical stop, then back it off a smidge (even a couple thousandths is good). Set your XY zero there.
