Project layout changes between computers

I have two personal computers that I have Carbide Create Pro 7 (Build 778) installed on. On one PC (Laptop used for 90% of the work) and a second AIO desktop. Both machines running WIN10.

I created a simple project on the laptop including the text “ROCKWAY”. I had to create multiple groupings of the letters in individual text’s to allow me to align the spacing properly as I did not like the spacing between letters when I just typed the word. I grouped the vectors together at the end.

When I open the project on the AIO machine the grouped letters re-align on top of each other so “ROCKW” now has “AY” overlapping it with the “A” starting on top of the “W” Opening back on the laptop and the vectors are aligned properly. For a test I downloaded and installed the same build on my work laptop with the same overlapping results.

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen or how I can account for this, I would like to be able to use both PC’s and share designs between them.

Does this imply the letters moved back to a position they were once in? In that case it sounds like you forgot to save your file before transferring it to the other machine. How are you transferring the file? Open the correct file and the file that exists on the transfer media (USB stick, email, IM) on the computer that’s giving you issue.

Posting your file will help with helping!

Different fonts/font versions can cause things to shift.

To ensure this doesn’t happen, duplicate the text and convert to curves and assign the toolpaths to the curves.

Hey Will, thank you for the quick response. Apologies I left that step out of my description, when I created the original file I did convert the text to curves, so in the end I had two sets of vectors that I placed side by side to make the full word then I grouped the vectors. It seems the two vector groups are re-aligning on top of each other.

Upload the file and we will look into this with you.

Rockway Barrel Clock MAIN.c2d (452 KB)

This is the file I am working with, it is saved on a USB drive that I transfer between the two PC’s, always loading and saving from the USB directly.

When opened on the Laptop (Original design space)

the word appears as it should, this is a pic of how it appears on the AIO

Really appreciate the support on this!

This is how it looks for me too.

Same file opened on the Laptop computer. Exact same build of Carbide Create. I know this seems a silly thing to stress, but the AIO is the machine physically connected to the CNC to run the programs, and it would be nice to be able to make the design on the laptop and transfer to the AIO when running the carve

It’s immediately clear that the text was not converted to curves. One version has serif, the other does not. Something got lost in translation.

There is one copy if this file on a USB drive. That single file is being used on both machines. There are not multiple copies of the file being opened in multiple locations. Single version of the file…I am confused, I may be missing something I just don’t know what it is.

The font used on the one machine:

is missing from the other:

If you install the same version of the font in both places, it should work.

Or, if you convert the text to curves.

Thanks everyone, will dig into the font side, really appreciate the help

I also use two machines, but I Remote Desktop from my table to my desktop and do design work on one and motion on the other.
Just an alternative solution.
