Proximity switch compatibility question

Per the Carbide 3D accessories web page, the proximity limit switches are not compatible with the DeWalt router. Anyone know the reason for this issue? My machine is a Shapeoko 3 XXL.

The DeWalt is just wide enough that the proximity switches interfere w/ it.

This may be apples to oranges but I have an SO3 XXL with HDZ and a Dewalt 611 router and upgraded several years ago to the proximity switches. Never had a problem. So what Z do you have?

It’s belt driven. From the other responses, it seems the compatibility issue is from the size of the DeWalt router top being a tad too wide and possibly hitting the “z” proximity switch mount if raised up too high.

Would it be possible for you to post a picture of your z axis proximity switch setup. I have a HDZ and DeWalt 611 that I want to upgrade to proximity switches but am reluctant based on Carbide’s recommendation.

Here is a picture of my SO3 XXL with HDZ and Proximity Switch Upgrade. The Router is in the uppermost position so I dont see how the proximity switch could possibly be hit by the top of the router when the router does not come near the proximity switch. My HDZ is a 3.2 version. Not sure what version they are selling now.

The dust collection tube bracket is attached to the HDZ and travels with the HDZ up and down.

I read on the proximity switch upgrade product about the compatability issue but since I have an hdz and you can see that the router does not come near the proximity switch. Maybe you should contact support to ask what they are talking about.

Now if you have a belt drive I am not sure how the proximity switch attaches to the older Z. Take a look at the upgrade guide to see where the switch attaches.

I went and found the upgrade instructions and now I see the issue with the belt drive.

The belt drive came with a ring that you could install inside the 69MM router mount that made it 66MM for the Makita/C3D router. So if you want to upgrade to the proximity switch then replace your trusty Dewalt with a Makita router. A quick search showed a new Makita from $75.00 to $100.00. So I guess it depends how badly you want to upgrade to proximity switches.

Not sure they still sell the HDZ for the SO3 but that was one of the best upgrades I ever did on my Shapeoko 3. The belt drive is barely acceptable for me so I upgraded to the HDZ.
