Question for bit zero V2

Last night I ran a job and I was using the bitzero V2. I set my x y and z with it and ran a chamfer cut. Then loaded a different bit into the spindle and put the bitzero In the bottom left corner again and probed for z. The project went deeper than what I initially ran before with the same g-code. So I am thinking that because I put it in the bottom left corner again and probe for z that the machine thinks that the top of the stock is lower. I think when I put my new tool in I was supposed to probe for z on the top of the stock. Am I correct and found my problem?

You are correct. When probing for Z only, the BZ must be entirely on top of the material, and not ‘hooked’ over the edge.

The probing screen has some diagrams that are supposed to show this, but in my opinion the one for Z only is correct but not obvious. The diagram should have the BZ inset more from the edge of the material, so it is completely obvious that the BZ in on top of the material.

Awesome. Thank you so much for this!

@mhotchin is correct. When you pick a v1 and/or v2 in the probe in CM Carbide3d has set up in the programming the height of each model with the BitZero over the edge (X,Y and Z) and with the BitZero on top of the material (Z only). That height of each version of the BitZero and the position for the type of zero setting you are doing is used to calculate the zero positions of each type of probing. The machine knows the home position of the X Y and Z from the initialization. That position is then used to position your zeros distance from the homing position and the position of the Z zero (zeroing on top and/or bottom).

So by picking your BitZero type (v1or v2, they are different dimensions) you are telling the controller and the CM software how to calculate where you are setting your zeros. That is why there are multiple options when picking probing. Each one of the types of probing sets up how the controller and CM calculate your zero positions. As long as you follow instructions things will work as advertised.
