How are you protecting your VFDs from dust etc?
What type of enclosure are you using?

Ideally you would want to install it outside your enclosure, that is if you have one.
If you don’t, I would recommend installing it high enough on a wall near the machine that it’s naturally protected from debris (no big deal if it’s not at arm’s length, you almost never have to touch it after it’s installed anyway). With a dust shoe there should not be a lot of dust escaping that far anyway
