Re-creating a CAM clamp

There is a Cam Clamp design at:

https://carbide3d.com/3d-print/cam-clamp/

which is available as an STL, but cutting thus would require Carbide Create Pro, which this 2.5D design should not need.

Opening the file we get:

so create a new file of suitable dimensions:

and import the STL:

which imports as expected:

which can then have the outline traced:

at various heights:

image

which then need to have multiple elements deleted:

and if desired, re-created where not round enough:

and where necessary, create flat geometry which is equal so as to determine the thickness:

Then assign toolpaths:

and if a tool won’t fit, use a smaller tool:

and add offset geometry:

Then use a Contour toolpath to finish cutting after assigning tabs:

and add additional toolpaths as desired… which previews as:

Attached as a v8 file:

Your tutorials are very helpful, Will, and I thank you for teaching me so much. That said, you make me see just how far I have to go learning to use the software. Lol
