Any advice on how to remove or deactivate the aggravating number of fonts Apple installs on the Mac? I’ve tried searching online for methods but most just refer to FontBook, which allows you to maintain your own fonts but won’t let you uninstall or deactivate the majority of the fonts cluttering the text pull down menu.
Alternately, could Carbide Create be set up to access only the fonts in My Fonts ?
It’s just a frustrating time suck scrolling through all those fonts I’ll never use.
You can do this if you’re sure the fonts are not used internally, i.e. for display by native Mac programs. Be sure to find a list of these before proceeding.
Fonts are stored the Fonts folder within the Library folder(s). If you’re sure the font is safe to delete just navigate to the Fonts folder and delete. One additional issue is that there is more than one Library folder, consequently more than one Fonts folder.
Your Users folder has a Library > Fonts folder, these are safe to delete because they’ve been installed by you.
There is a Library > Fonts folder at the root hard drive level. I’m not positive but from perusing mine I think these are also user installed. In mine these fonts appear to be ones I used, or created, when I wrote iOS apps awhile ago.
Likely the bulk of your unwanted fonts are in the hard drive > System > Library > Fonts folder. This is where you need to be careful. Many appear to be only useful for foreign language use like Mandarin. And Braille! Probably safe to delete these. Fonts like San Francisco are essential for system display but I’m not sure if that means you need to keep SFHebrew if a gentile. Other essential fonts include, but maybe not limited to, Helvetica, Arial and Courier. And don’t toss fonts you regularly use like, for me, Lucida Grande.
You will likely be asked for the administrator password to access these base level Libraries. You’ll likely need a restart to see changes.
