I am at the point of having to replace my spoil board on Shapeoko 3,it has a far amount of abuse and on the weekend 3 of the t nuts came loose in that the spikes that hold them into the board were bent overs a new one has to be done?
The question has any one done one with the t track and t nut combination and does it work well?
I did MDF slats and with groves to allow the slats to hang over the t tracks. The t tracks seem to be rock solid this way.
Great mod to the spoil board!
Ed that looks like the solution, who supplied or makes the t track as it looks sturdy? How wide did you make the slats?
@gdon_2003 sent me those T tracks years ago so I don’t really know where he got them. The T nuts are from this C3D kit. They required some machining to fit. You can see the before and after difference in size in the picture. I’m sure there is an easier option with t track and nuts sizes out there somewhere.
I’ll get you some measurements and better pictures tomorrow evening. Keep in mind that this is on a standard size SO3 with the original MDF one piece base board under those slats.
The tracks came from an SO3 XL. I bought it and hate t-tracks so I removed the C3D spoilboard and made an MDF with Tee Nuts and used cam clamps. I eventually sold the XL. So I believe it was the original equipment on the SO3.
My slats are roughly 3 1/8" wide. The T Tracks are .740" wide. Nine inches of the rear most part of the slats was machined down pretty thin before they were installed so I could tile off the back after surfacing the slats.
That’s great, thanks ED,I am going to go your way and a good point about carrying on the boards to the back for tiling.
