Repost: Links for Double Sided Tape, Blue Tape, and CA Glue

Brands of adhesive you like?

Can experts here suggest good links for these items:

  • Double Sided Tape
  • Blue Tape
  • CA Glue

I like this Scotch blue tape from the big box stores. There’s a similar one from Scotch with printing/advertising on it, but it seems thin. I like the plain blue kind. Sticks good. Comes off easy. Doesn’t tear. Bulk pricing for 3 or 6 rolls.

And for CA glue, you’re going to get differing opinions on viscosity, but Starbond THIN is by far my favorite. I get it from Amazon. It lasts forever after being opened, whereas for me, thicker CA always goes bad in the bottle quickly after opening. The thin stuff doesn’t need accelerator - just press and hold for a few seconds and you’re done.

I don’t use double sided tape. Too sticky (hard to remove). And it gums up endmills.

Ditto on the Scotch Blue tape. I use the original Krazy Glue, one of the few where the capping works for the entire use of the container.

Another vote for ScotchBlue, but specifically 3M ScotchBlue 2093EL - accept no substitutes. Cec Corp Extra Thin CA Glue.

This 2 sided tape is very good I use it all the time now. Get it on Amazon

Scotch Blue tape.
Random CA thin; but I get it in those tiny metal tubes (3-4 g). Can get used up quickly without having to worry about going stale. Cheap online brands.
Haven’t seen any difference with accelerator, so not using it.

I use the 2" regular 3M painters tape and Titebond Medium Super Glue. Never had a failure. The tape is wide enough to cover a good area and I do an S pattern of the super glue.

I do use cam clamps also but I have an SO3 with threaded spoilboard. I also have an L bracket that I usually keep on the spoilboard and can capture the corner of a project and use the cam clamps to hold it in place. I have the C3D tiger and gator clamps but seldom use them. The newer hybrid tables have the t-tracks to help hold clamps but my threaded spoilboard keeps things safe and secure.

Here is a picture of my L bracket holding a project with cam clamps. You could modify the L bracket for the spacing of the hybrid table.

In the file are cam clamps as well. I like the long L bracket because it holds my projects square to the router. When tightening the L bracket jog the router over with a bit and jog back and forth to make the bracket square to the router.

Here is the L bracket and cam clamps holding a round object. The object is a turned bowl from my lathe but I put the message on the bottom for my nephew that lost his wife.

This is what I use also. Works really well!

I’ve had great success with this tape:

This looks great but claims “silicone based adhesive”. Although it also states “leaves no residue”.

Ever have a problem applying finish to areas on which the tape has been used? As a luthier (retired) I’ve read plenty on avoiding silicone products on guitars because of this issue.

Think I’ll try some on some non wood substrates,

Ive never had any residue left after removing the tape. I always do a light sanding anyways but never had any issues with it.
