RPM and SFM Calculations please

Hello all,

So I have the Amana tool 30 degree Vbit 45634-k. Could someone please tell me how to get the RPM. You must have the SFM before you can calculate the RPM and vice versa. I am just totally lost here, please clarify why I cant get this right…

should I just guess at an RPM to calculate the SFM?

In the image you posted near the top it has Spindle Speed 18,000 RPM.

The Amana feeds and speeds are intended for use with an industrial machine — we have a similar tool listed as an Engrave in Carbide Create:

Perhaps that would be a workable starting point?

Beyond that see:

  1. Speed (RPM) = (SFM x 3.82) / D.

  2. SFM (Surface Feet per Minute) = (RPM x D) / 3.82.

if you look at the chart I provided from amana tools, you must have the SFM to calculate the RPM… Before you can get the RPM you must calculate the RPM. How can you do this if neither is known… ?

tried that , calculated the math and came out to 18k and some change, the RPM calculated to be just above 18k. However when I used a random number say 14,000, the numbers were just above 14k. why does the numbers fluctuate like this not making sense to me.

solve the feedrate calculation for RPM

RPM = Feed / (Flutes * Chipload)

So say you choose 80ipm / (2 flutes * 0.005ipr) = 8000RPM

Then for SFM you use the diameter at the depth you are cutting.
A 30° cutting 0.1 deep is 0.054 dia.
SFM = 0.262 * 0.054 * 8000 = 112.3
