I’m looking for a high-quality, realistic wood grain file suitable for CNC sign making on HDU. Ideally, I’d like to cover a full 4’ x 8’ sheet with a continuous yet varied wood grain texture so that individual homeowner name signs cut from it each feature a unique portion of the pattern. If that’s not feasible, I’d be happy to start with a 5” x 14” file that I can replicate across the board.
Any recommendations, resources, or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
I’m unsure of the realism you’re looking for or your intended means of making it, but…
Try googling wood grain displacement maps and loading them into your 3d carve software. You will most likely need to pay but there may be a freebie you like
Google wood grain 3d STL models.
If you’re up for it, you can make your own in Blender, Houdini, or another 3d software modelling package and export height field/displacement maps.
Thanks! You got me pointed in a great direction and I will definitely pursue a couple of the ideas, one for ease and another because I love to work digitally.
Problem being we have definitely moved away from the wood due to poor quality lumber these days and the humid environment we live in here. It fits real fast!
After much research, frustration, hours of video watching, trial and error, a training session with Tyler, I have my first viable product for sand blasted woodgrain look! I am very satisfied with the end product…well at least this first mock up. My first end goal was to emulate one of the name signs that I will be producing for a country club. And this was the very reason I decided to purchase a CNC in the first place. (Note, I currently have 11 signs lined up to do before having produced 1 finished product )
It isn’t the end product for sure (I will eventually have it looking LIKE wood)!
