Satisfy my curiosity on setting z axis only

I have several projects lately where the only change I have needed in the setup process is to reset the z height. I typically start my projects in the front left of the machine. When I zero the z height in that general area, the spindle goes over to the bit setter and then goes back to the area where I set the z height. Seems like a wasted trip across the machine, because now I am ready to run the file and it has to return to the bit setter again. Finally to my question…Is that how it is supposed to act and being the curious one…why does it need the extra trip?

You get one trip because of setting the Z height.

You get another trip for the tool change at the start of the file. If you already have the right tool in the spindle, it’s redundant, but the machine doesn’t know that.

Thanks @mhotchin Michael, that helps confirm it is acting the way that was intended. I was expecting it to stop at the normal location near the bitsetter where it stops when initializing the machine, so it was an unexpected action from my viewpoint and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing something wrong/incorrectly.
