Cutting it Close just released a new kit that is essentially a football field that you can add your preferred universities name and logo to.
Purchase of the kit gives you a commercial license allowing you to sell the fields you produce. Of course, that does not give you the right to sell a university’s trademarked name and logo.
I checked on TTU’s trademark policy and Tech does offer what it calls a Community Connect license, which is a relatively inexpensive annual fee with limits on unit and dollar sales. Might be a way to test the waters. Some places call this a small or local crafters license.
Just wondering what experience others have had producing and selling trademarked items.
I don’t have direct experience because I’ve always been aware of how problematic it is. Selling local in person is less so. Online, corporate entities have teams which scout for IP infringement. I make guitar stuff where its well known there are many spurious trademarks that never should have been issued to work around. I’ve known people to get Cease and Desist letters for trying to sell an item on FB Marketplace called “ style” guitar. Sports leagues and associations are infinitely worse. There was a well known maker of reproduction uniforms which MLB basically put out of business about 15 years ago.
