Ugh. All of a sudden my connection between my laptop and my Shapeoko 3 would drop out. Today I can’t even get it to find the machine. I have a good and separate power source for router and CNC. Power light on the CNC comes on, but then fades out after a few mins. Laptop cannot find the machine.
Try unplugging the USB from PC to CNC and putting it back. Happens to me every time I use the CNC after closing the laptop lid.
Thank you.
Tried that. Unplugged everything, cleaned the plug, and plugged it back in - multiple times.
So it sounds like I have 2 problems.
- Power light fading out (but “black box” still green light)
- Software not connecting.
I also reinstalled the Carbide Motion software.
I’m wonding if it is a hardware issue.
How do I actually speak with a Carbide Tech?
You should reach out to support at support@carbide3d.com
The SO3 control board has to be powered up for the software to connect. The power light that’s fading out, is it the one on the control board? If it is, do you have another power supply to try?
If you want a quick response I would go to the websight and use the link that allows you to request a call back and also enter your issues in the description field.
Just spoke with a Tech. Did an extesnive unplug/replug procedure. Ended up being a bad Z switch. $12 fix but shuts down machine till the part comes in.
Tech guy was super helpful.
thanks all
If you need to run it today, you can scroll down to “Bypass Homing Switches” at Troubleshooting Homing . Just be sure to reset you zero each time you follow that process and when you install the new switch.
yes sir. I did try. that. ended up being a bad switch.
Update.
So I installed the new Z switch and it is working now. I also purchased a maintenance kit for the maching.
Funny thing… no instructions! Anybody know if a video or document anywhere?
Scroll down to the bottom of this link to select the assembly manual for your machine then find the applicable parts for installing the maintenance kit
For the SO3 see:
