Shapeoko 3 XL issues

Not sure where to really even begin. I was cutting with my Shapeoko and when the cut finished, I changed files out and my machine decided to go dumb on me. I have reset the board on the machine, reset my computer, checked connections. For the life of me, I can’t find where the problem lies. I have attached links to the videos to show what it is doing.

Thanks in advance

Not sure what the control board is saying but that sounds like the Z axis motor is either missing steps or slipping on the Z belt.

Try powering the machine off and then checking that the router mount will go up and down the full distance cleanly and consistently, then check the Z belt tension to check the belt isn’t slipping round the pulley?

The Z belt is tight and not slipping, I even loosened it to make sure I didn’t possibly have it too tight although I have not adjusted it in several months. I am able to power off the machine and SLOWLY move the router up and down by hand without issue.

Check the connections on your Z stepper wiring? Anything come loose?

The connections all look good, I’ve even went as far as wiggling the wires while trying to initialize it just to hope and find a loose connection or maybe a broken wire. No luck, it just popped up out of the blue with the issue.

Can you get to the settings screen to see if the Shapeoko thinks any of the three home switches are active?

Where would I find those settings at? In carbide motion?

Yes, in Carbide Motion, go to the Settings page, there’s a pane there where active inputs are listed.

Active pins shows there are none, if that’s what the reference is to

Hmm,

There is certainly something funky going on with the Z stepper drive, it shouldn’t go up and down like that during homing and it definitely shouldn’t be making that noise.

At this point calling support might be worthwhile?

Unlock and jog. Same issue?
Swap motor connector at the board… Same.
Really looks like wiring issue to me.

Well, it appears that is what a faulty stepper motor sounds like (at least in my instance)… switched that motor out with another on my machine and it works flawlessly. Thanks for all of your input!
