Shapeoko 3 XL Value

I have a line on a Shapeoko 3 XL with a bit setter. It appears to be in near new condition. What do think the value would be for such a machine?

The upper end would be to compare to the price of an SO4 XL, $2,150, then subtract a valuation for the various features/benefits a new machine has:

which may vary a bit depending on what features the old machine has — in particular the controller may not have a BitRunner connector, and it might have mechanical homing switches, or a belt-drive Z-axis rather than a Z-Plus — having an HDZ would be a major benefit.

Then, consider the cost of a Maintenance Kit which will allow one to pretty much rebuild a machine to new: Shapeoko Maintenance Kit - Carbide 3D and one should be able to get a rough idea of where to fall — other considerations are local market, and any bundled items such as tooling or a table or enclosure.

Less than $1,000.00.

I tried to sell my SO3XL but got zero takers. So, I donated it to my kids’ school for their woodshop.

Here’s an XXL with HDZ for $1,000 or OBO on eBay. It says local pick-up only, so factor in your travel time.

Thanks everyone. This gives me an idea of the value.

The SO3 XL is a good machine but since they are not making it any more that drops its value. You do want to make sure it has the Z-Plus or the HDZ. The Belt Z works but is not very good and the last SO3 machines sold had the Z-Plus.

I sold an SO3 XL for $1500 a few years ago but I had a lot of tooling to go with it. I had bought it with the bits and did not need them.

Just make sure it will run from side to side and front to back al the way during a test. If possible try to cut a simple vcarve (that is fast) to make sure it works. and as @vince51 indicated no more than $1000.00 and less if it has the belt Z because the new Z-Plus is $250.00 and a belt Z is just not good.

You bring up good points about the z axis. Thanks.
