Shapeoko 3 XXL Belt Issue

I’ve had my machine for a couple years w/ many hrs of run time…no issues to speak of. Yesterday I noticed a spot on one of the Y axis belts. Anyone had similar issues or am I doing something wrong?

Your belt is broken and needs to be replaced.

Yep,

That’s the reinforcing fibres in the belt letting go and the rubbery bit stretching. You have probably not done anything wrong, it’s probably just age.

You can get spares from the C3D store or you can get kevlar cored 9mm GT2 belts from various sources which are less stretchy but don’t last as long as the fiberglass cored belts that I believe C3D now supplies, which are fine.

When you install the replacements, set the tension properly

Not overtensioning belts is the best way to not have them fail early or wear out your stepper motors early.

Please write in to us at support@carbide3d.com if they are steel core belts and we’ll work this out.
