Hey folks! I plan to call Carbide 3D later today, but wanted to post here in case there’s something that I haven’t thought of quite yet. Earlier this year, I picked up a used Shapeoko 3 XXL and the man I bought it from was using CNCjs. I had a little experience with CNCjs from when I had a 3018 CNC, but wanted to use Carbide Motion since it was the software made for the Shapeoko. I tried it on an old laptop, but it didn’t work. When I would tell it to move one increment (like 1mm) in X or Y after homing it would move both X and Y as well as Z. The only way to stop it was to turn the power off. Also, when I would try to rapid to say, center, it would just rapid to the front left and not stop until I turned the machine off. I chalked this up to just being an old laptop, installed CNCjs, which worked perfectly fine, and have been using that since. However, I have also tried Carbide Motion on my MacBook Pro as well as another, much more powerful, Windows PC…to the same result.
Here’s a video of what the CNC does, and my screen is also visible. Any thoughts or ideas? I’ve set up Carbide Motion properly and even had it flash the settings back to the Shapeoko after re-confirming everything within motion…so I’m at a loss. I’ve had some controller issues with CNCjs in the past and think it all relates back to whatever is causing Motion to misbehave, so I’d love to track that down as I work on progressing from part-time hobbyist to a position where I’m trying to create products and eventually ramp up production.
