Shapeoko 4 XXL Enclosure

Hello everyone,

I’ve spent the past few days browsing through the posts and a lot of Youtube videos to find the easiest way (since I don’t have woodworking skills) to create an “enclosure” for my machine. Before making any purchases, I’d love to get your thoughts and suggestions on what I could improve.

I’m planning to build an enclosure similar to this one. Since I don’t have much space to make a full soundproof enclosure, this design seems perfect for me and something I feel confident I can build even without experience.

These are the extra items I plan to buy to complete the project, with the wood being the only thing I’ll source locally (3/4 Plywood).

The height will be around 35", which is perfect because I can use my machine to cut out a window for the 24" x 24" plexiglass, like this:

The L brackets will help secure the “enclosure” to the base of my table, and I’m also planning to add lights to better observe the machine.

Other than that, everything seems pretty straightforward – I’ll basically just be screwing things together.

One thing I’m unsure about is whether I should invest in filling the “enclosure” with Kilmat 80 Mil (since it might help with soundproofing and as opposed to using foam it seems it doesn’t collect dust), and if I should also buy some kind of fan for ventilation. From what I’ve read, the “enclosure” could get hot, especially since I plan to use the machine for extended periods (6-8 hour projects at a time).

Looking forward to hearing your advice before I go ahead with any purchases!

The simplest enclosure I ever came up with was using fence boards & Rockwool Comfortboard80.
