I finished building my 4XXL and am trying to install the software using Motion 640. I click the “Setup New Machine” button and start the process. I chose the Shapeoko 4 Z-Plus and XXL from the dropdowns. The next screen says to initiate. I click that at the z motor is pushing the router all the way to the bottom and seem to keep trying to go farther pushing on the deck. I hit the stop button and am now stuck. I removed the config json file and tried again. Same issue.
Which Z-axis does your machine have? Z-Plus or HDZ? Did you configure for the correct option?
With the power off, slowly/gently move the machine through the full range of motion for all axes — for the Z-axis, move it all the way to the bottom, then back up to the top, then to the middle — stop with the machine at the center of motion for all axes.
Power up and connect to the machine and go to Settings | Debug — are any switches stuck on? Test each switch by presenting metal to it — does each light up promptly and signal as the correct input? For the Probe inputs, test the BitSetter button (and if you have it the BitZero by touching the ground lead to the probe body).
Enable the MDI and bypass the homing switches as described at:
and test jogging the machine — does each axis move smoothly, in the correct direction (X+ == right, Y+ == to the back, Z+ == up) the expected distance?
Is it possible you have the router set too low in the mount? Have you tried removing the router and initializing without it installed? I have the S5Pro and I have read there are some differences with the spindle mounts for HDZ and Z plus for example. The initialization step should just run the axis’s thru their travel lengths and stop when limit switches are reached to determine operating limits.
Thanx for the quick response! I just purchased this 4 XXL from the Carbide website. On the website it says it ships with the Z-Plus. That is what I chose from the drop-down selection.
