Shapeoko 5: max length USB cable

I recently got and installed the Shapeoko 5 4x4 but the USB cable is too short for my table (I can barely run it to the front of my CNC table). I was thinking about buying a longer one but I saw on an old post here that the max suggested length was 6 feet, which is the length of the one I received with the machine. Is this max length still a thing with the Shapeoko 5 or can I run a cable 2-3 feet longer? Thanks

I’ve used my ProXXL with a 16-20 ft. USB cable with no issues.

Also, it looks like the Shapeoko 5 control board may employ an optically isolated USB interface - which would really help to keep any static voltages from affecting the data connection.

USB cables have varying quality. So if possible with a long cable get ones that have chokes (Ferrite Beads) to eliminate any noise that can effect the cable’s performance. You want a usb cable that is shielded to help keep noise from effecting the performance. So the longer the usb cable the better quality helps.

6’ is the max. official length.

For longer you should use an active repeater cable or interpose a powered hub.

I’m using a 3M cable with no issues.

Thank you so much for your replies. I bought an active repeater cable.

I have a set up for another device that uses a powered adapter that then utilizes CAT-5/6 wire to run the distance. It’s runs a very LONG distance and it’s perfect. I don’t see the one I got, but it’s a lot like this one (the one I have is USB 3.0)
