Shapeoko 5 pro Firmware update gone wrong

I hadn’t updated my firmware in a couple years, I had an odd bug where if the machine sat too long before I loaded a file sometimes it would start making a ticking sound while sitting still, the sound came back while running and I noticed it skipping steps in Y. (no real load here I was just cutting letters in lamicoid a fraction of a mm deep.)

Anyway I thought I should try doing a firmware update before I started down that path. I followed all the instructions but at the end of the update I get

“Error during reset for manifestation: NetworkError: Failed to execute ‘reset’”

When I shut down the power for 1 minute and bring it back its not recognized by carbide create (yes I updated this too) I still see the shapeoko 5 pro listed as esp2-s2 in Device manager and on the website when I reconnect to it.

I have tried running through the steps a couple more times but same error each time.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Please let folks know about this at support@carbide3d.com and we will work out how to handle this.

I copied this over and added a little more detail and sent it in. Thanks

OK so I had some more time to come out and play.

I redid flashed the again, again I got the same error. But instead of just turning off the controller I hit the reset button on the controller then did the power down step.

When it came up it finally said shapeoko in device manager but it still wouldn’t connect to carbide motion. Even though I just installed the updated version a couple hours ago (installed before I did the update to firmware) I reinstalled carbide motion using the same download as before and restarted the pc again (I had restarted the pc several times at various point incase it was something like that)

Anyway when the PC came back up I can now connect, I just homed the machine. My only guess here is when you install carbide motion it finds some sort of driver during installation. When updated the firmware I think maybe that driver was modified and carbide motion lost its link. I have no actual idea thats just pure guessing.

I will let it sit while I do some other things to see if the ticking comes back (yes it did tick today before I started all this I wanted to make sure it still had the same behavior) So far so good though on the ticks.

As someone who has been through a. Ticking issue and loss of steps on a n early 5.

Start moving wires and connectors around for the motor.

Mine was a loose pin form my z motor. You could visibly see the pin size and discoloration.

Carbide had me replace the stepper and the harness section.
