Shapeoko Pro 2x2 Vs HDM V3

I’m interested in buying one of the 2 mentioned. Had an Avid 2x3 but have moved and don’t have room or 220V set up. Can anyone say what the major differences are and which would be preferred?

Thank you!

The HDM arrives on a pallet and will want a pallet jack or some sturdy friends to help move it/The 5 Pro arrives in 3 boxes and will want a friend to help move them to where the machine is to be assembled and to assemble it.

The HDM is more rigid and has a smaller larger working area/The 5 Pro is not quite as hefty but has a larger smaller working area.

If your projects fit on an HDM, there’s no reason not to get it — if you use larger stock, the 5 Pro in a larger size is the clear winner — for projects which fit both the HDM and 2x2, it comes down to trading budget for cut time/material removal rate and so forth.

Specifically between the 2x2 Shapeoko 5 Pro and the HDM, the HDM is going to be more rigid and a slightly larger working envelope. It is a more capable machine and comes with a spindle. It really depends on what you want to do with it. If I was cutting aluminum all day and had the budget, I would look at the HDM.

Thanks for the correction. Obviously, I didn’t pay attention to the launch notes.

HDM:

Axis travel
X-Axis travel 690mm (27in)
Y-Axis travel 610mm (24in) - 75mm is over the front of the machine
Z-Axis travel 145mm (5.7in)

Thanks for all the replies. I bought the HDM V3 with 110V spindle. Thanks again! Rick
