Just finished the assembly of a new Shapeoko Pro 5 4X4 with the VFD Spindle. I experienced a variety of homing errors upon starting the machine, but one by one, I was able to work my way out of those.
The machine had a horrible “jump” as it was going to homing positions. Looking into that, I found that several bolts on the “Y” rails were loose… one missing in the “turnbuckle” that moves along the shaft. Bolts tightened and went through the “Set up New Machine” process in completion.
The router moves to the Bit Setter location and sets successfully… but I was hearing this rhythmic jumping coming from the machine. It starts rather slow, but increases in frequency the longer it does it. I’m having difficulty determining which motor is doing it… but it seems to resonate throught the left Y Axis stronger.
I think I have the same issue. Sometimes if I power the controller off it will resolve for a little bit but comes back. Was your motor jumping all the time or randomly?
Mine sounds like the motor at the left rear is knocking but it is hard to tell exactly which one it is. I put my hand on each of them and the left rear one is where I could feel the knock knock. When it makes the noise, it sometimes varies in intensity as well.
My issue was constant… and the knocking would increase in frequency over time. My tech support contact, who was VERY helpful, by the way… suspected that the controller had a bad driver for the stepper motor so he had another sent out. New controller replaced… same problem, but moved from left to right. Another controller sent out…received and replaced… resolved the problem completely.
I had another couple of issues due to assembly defects, but it’s working like a champ now.
