Can the Shapeoko VFD take 1/2" collects? And will the 5 Pro handle the bigger endmills?
The 65mm diameter VFD spindle kit:
uses ER-11 collets, so maxes out at 8mm (5/16")
The Shapoko HDM has an 80mm spindle w/ an ER-20 collet, so goes up to 1/2" — it is my understanding that we have an 80mm spindle in development for the SO5 Pro, but no idea what collet system it will have, nor when it might be available.
Check in w/ the folks at sales@carbide3d.com and hopefully they can share more specifics.
