Sharing engraving in brass - improvement advice

Hey All,

Just thought I’d share some brass engraving I did on my Nomad 3.

I ended up using 2 bits - a 60 degree Vbit using a contour toolpath and then a 0.5mm 2 flute square end mill to pocket.

I found vcarve/advance vcare isn’t great for metal so tried the contour/pocket paths instead.

Any advice on improvements are always appreciated.

what didn’t you like about the adv.vcarve functionality for brass? I use it fairly often.

First, it takes a lot longer in my experience but more importantly, I find that it leaves a lot of deep spots when it dips in and out leaving the finished product looking odd. I’ve only tried this with contour and pocket operations not with proper 3d carving with meshcam.

I would really love to learn your experience - perhaps I’m doing something wrong. Would you mind sharing what toolpaths you use and any tips and tricks would be much appreciated!
