My computer locked up during my latest cut do to my computer stopping all running programs, I had to reboot the computer only to have it go into a windows update before it would come online. I feel windows has too much control over our computers and causes many issues, I am certain that the update that windows pushed to my computer caused my issue I will make sure it is disconnected from the net when I run a job in the future.
You can stop updates for 7days at a time.
I agree winders updates use too much resources regardless of the settings. Every update fixes 2 bugs and adds 3 new ones.
And that is a good reason why I use a Pi
IMHO it not just Windows updates, but they are the ones that started it. Every Vendor thinks they are the most important program running. They all do auto updates, or scans or inventory or , The days of being in charge of your own Windows machine have long gone
Ya, I heard that. Seems it’s not only the operating systems (my iPhone and iPad seem to update weekly) but other software as well. Everything I use regularly seems to either auto update on opening (Quicken, Fusion 360, etc.) or it prompts me to update. Alas, it could be worse as at least updates are often fixing known problems and are evidence of ongoing maintenance and support by the manufacturers.
Just an update, after the windows update finished I put the computer in airplane mode and did a 5 hour carve with no issues at all, will do all my cuts in airplane mode from now on.
I have a computer dedicated to the shapeoko, I always keep it offline while carving and never had an issue
I use a Raspberry Pi, I dont have to do anything
