Sick tray: a place for everything and everything in its place

It’s not what you think, probably,

This morning I had a fever of 103.3. It’s down to a more “reasonable” temp now and I really, really hate just lazing about. So I’m going to properly model a thing the wife came up with ages ago.

The sick tray is an attempt to keep everything one might need when they are sick in one place and within arms reach. Nobody likes to hunt for 15 different items when they can barely keep their eyes open. On top of that, moving from one location to another (living room to bedroom) can be a tremendous hassle with so many loose items about.

So the wife came up with her own solution: The Sick Tray. Think tv dinner tray but with everything you need when you’re sick.

Requirements
Dedicated spots for staple items:
Vicks
Tissue box
Caugh drops
Sachets off things like theraflu and tea
Blister packs of a few day and nighttime medications
Easy reach bags for stomach related shenanigans…
And most important, a dedicated holder for a gallon zip lock bag for the used tissues. (So you can simply zip the biohazard bag for disposal)

Some additional features include:
All “locked” in place. Nothing should slide around or fall out when the tray is kept reasonably level. This facilitates moving from one quarantine zone to another.

Nothing protruding in a way that would be dangerous if you fall. This if primarily related to the structure that holds the ziplock bag open for the tissues. I don’t want to stumble and impale myself on a dowel rod for example.

Lastly, it should be light weight. I wouldn’t want to be lugging around a thick piece of oak just because it’s pretty. This is meant to be utilitarian through and through.
I’m thinking a good base might be a plastic serving tray like you would find at a restaurant.
Very lightweight and plenty rigid for a solid base plate. (Though I might make it from carbon fiber since I’ve been wanting to play with that process)

All in all this is a nice idea for any household.
If you have children it’s mighty convenient to have everything in one place. If you live alone, it’s just a way to be kind to yourself when you’re otherwise down and out. If it’s just you and a significant other, you get to be a hero when you deliver the tray to the sickly SO.

It’s an idea worth exploring more for sure and I’ll be working on it between bouts of unwelcome naps :sleepy:

If anyone has ideas for this sort of thing, drop a reply

Consider PVC for weight savings and as a bonus you could pressure wash it :joy:

I don’t see mention of a cup holder or phone charger.

Well, that’s sort of like “How long is a string?”

Cup holder is definitely going to be added and a phone charger is interesting. Maybe a slot for a power bank or something similar.

On the subject of phones, a gooseneck phone holder for watching videos and such in bed will also be a great addition

He’s down, but not out ! Get well.

It’s not quite the same thing. There are definitely things I just haven’t thought about and by listing what I have thought about, other folks have something to work off of (the phone and cup ideas being great examples :slightly_smiling_face:)

The bamboo trays might be a good platform to work from so long as the legs don’t just flop about
Moving a tray and having one of the legs flip out and smack a shin would be a sure fire way to infuriate me :yum:
Made one of those laptop trays with a thin bean bag type layer underneath would be interesting. Conforms nicely and with the right materials it would still be easily washable (dishwasher safe )

Not out quite yet but somebody sure is trying! Not today :sunglasses:
