Occasionally I will get some skipping on the Y axis. The cause seems to be the Y axis wiring harness. I can wiggle it some and it will go away. I have redone the harness a number of times but still get the issue occasionally. I have tried to ensure the wires going into the connectors are not kinked. Any other advice? Anyone else have this experience?

Usually such problems are caused by:
- mechanical interference — everything around the machine should be arranged so that it is not possible to interfere
- lack of lubrication: CNC Machine Maintenance
- unequal belt tension — getting this as consistent as possible and pulling the gantry all the way up to the front so as to ensure that the gantry is square to the machine structure when starting seems to help
- a Y-axis motor not working — power down and remove both Y-axis belts, then put a bit of tape on the pulleys so as to more easily see their rotation then initialize — if the motors don’t turn evenly and in synch there is either a wiring fault, or the stepper driver on the controller has gone bad
If the problem is random/intermittent it is most likely a wiring fault/connector issue.
