I’m a newbie, so forgive me if I’m posting this in the wrong place. I have a pretty good grasp on the design software and setting up tool paths. I obviously don’t understand speeds and feeds as well right now, so I am only using the default settings Carbide Create uses. I just assembled my Shapeoko 5 with the VFD spindle and was doing test contours using softwood settings on plywood with a brand new 201 endmill that came with the machine and the bit starts smoking immediately. Every thing I try, its a smoking bit. I tried some pockets on a small piece of walnut using the hardwood settings and it was sending smoking chips out. I thought the pre-programmed speeds and feeds were supposed to be conservative and “safe”. What am I doing wrong? Is it a bad bit? Do I need to change the defaults to compensate for the spindle? Lower RPMs? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
If you are using the feeds and speeds in Carbide Create then check to make sure the spindle is rotating in the correct direction.
Is there a setting that can make the spindle spin the wrong way?
Not that I know of but it could run backwards if the cable was made up incorrectly. There’s not really much else that could cause this if you’re using the correct speeds and feeds (i.e. suggested by default in Carbide Create). Do you want to post your Create file or at least some screenshot of the toolpath settings?
So i just used MDI to run m3s10000 and it is running counter clockwise, which i see is incorrect. Is this a support call now?
