Spacer for spindle

This is something I made to help support the dust boot on my spindle.

I found that on longer bits I was not able to adjust it close enough to suck up the chips. I actually had the dust boot fall off and get ground up by the bit before I could stop the machine.

Now I have about an extra inch of travel and it’s still rock solid.

I’ve allowed for air movement.

Its friction fit stays on, but easily removable if not needed.

Does not interfere with dust collection.
It allows use of the standard boot as well.

No tools or other modifications required.

Does not interfere with tool changes.

What I’m asking of you is can you see any reason I shouldn’t be using it?

I’ve never tried converting files

As long as it’s secure, I think you’d be ok. That’s basically the opposite of what we did with the “Deep Sweep” option for Sweepy.

For what it’s worth, this is probably only valid for the ER-11 spindle. For the ER-16, we made the body longer, so it’s possible to move Sweepy lower without adapters.
