Spindle doesn't start

As I started a project I heard the bit grinding- I knew that meant the spindle wasn’t turning and I hit the stop right away. I know I hit the start button- the red light was still on.
Tried reset, tried power off and on, checked cable connector from spindle controller to main controller box.

I contacted support last night but hoped someone might have an idea while I wait the weekend for them to respond.

I assume the main light is on and you can jog the machine normally ?

Can you spin the spindle manually ?

Yes,light on (0.0 on display), machine jogs, spindle turns freely by hand
